Someday we will visit Ngorongoro Conservation Area or begin to dream about going there! However, for now its not on our radar. Let us know in the comments if you think that should change!

Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Ngorongoro Conservation Area is a park and UNESCO World Heritage site in the Northeast Tanzania. It contains an old volcano that has collapsed and formed a crater (caldera). The steep sides of the crater have become a natural enclosure for a wide variety of wildlife.

The name of the crater has an onomatopoeic origin; it was named by the Maasai pastoralists after the sound produced by the cowbell (ngoro ngoro). Based on fossil evidence found at the Olduvai Gorge, various hominid species have occupied the area for 3 million years.
